Best Next Gen Console?
IMHO the Ps3 doesn't stand a chance, however.. Wii or 360?

Re: Best Next Gen Console?
i say the 360, but they kind of cheated. it came out a year before the other two and it usually takes another year after a console comes out for the big name games to come out. and i cannot deny that the 360 had the best array of games so far.
out of the console itself, id say the Wii only because its innovation and thats what video games need imo.

xbox 360 wins games
wii wins innovation
ps3 wins technology
out of the three ps3 gets my vote because it has the best room to evolve

I agree with Dyne that each system has its perks, but I had to go 360 because what I'm playing now is more important than what I'm playing years to come. The 360 has the games, that's what matters

Re: Best Next Gen Console?
360. It has the best consistency when it comes to releasing great games; 1st party and 3rd party alike; and its online structure is completely unequaled. The 360 also seems to have a pretty solid line-up for next year with games like Fable 2 and Ninja Gaiden 2.
Second would be the Ps3 (despite Sony's many screw ups) because the Wii is a horrible platform. The Wii has released a pitiful amount of great games. Discounting muti-plats you can say the same thing for the ps3, but unlike the Wii (although, judging from the topics in the "Fighting" section, you people here will be able to live off of Brawl alone), the Ps3 has a very strong line-up of exclusives for next year (as long as they don't just end up being more Lairs or Heavenly Swords). As far as online goes, the Wii doesn't really stand a chance. The structure is very bad and has incredibly little game support. PSN is far from perfect (where the heck is my in-game xmb?) but it has a far better structure and helluva lot more support when compare to the Wii.
From what i've read of previous posts, the common belief is that innovation automatically equates to greatness. The term, i believe, that fits this description is revolutionary (well applied innovation, in other words). This doesn't fit the Wii at all. Nintendo hasn't actually utilized the Wii's motion controls so that it actually improves the gameplay (aside from a few neat gimmicks) . It has either been the same thing as using a button or better off as using a regular controller. The 360 is more revolutionary than the Wii is, and possibly, come 2008, the Ps3 will also be more revolutionary.

Re: Best Next Gen Console?
its really a matter of opinion, but if you look at the numbers and statistics, Nintendo is in fact selling more than all other console companies based on the amount of time the console has been out.
they took a huge risk on innovation with their system. the others did nothing more than "copy and paste" ideas, as i like to call it. i commend Nintendo for taking that risk and following up.
i think the problem most people have with the Wii is they dont really sit down and play the games that really are made for the Wii only. Super Paper Mario was largly overlooked and is a really amazing game.

Re: Best Next Gen Console?
Sales hardly represent the quality of a product. Check games like Psychonauts that were of great quality but sold pitifully. And there are incredibly bad games like Wii Play that break the Top Ten every month. Products can, also, sell extremely well on hype (and price) and then later be disappointing after "freshness" wears off and all you have are decent(and somewhat clunky) controls for tons of mediocre games (with a few rare exceptions). Check the Wii.
The game statistics for the Wii, just show how bleak its future is. Every Nintendo game overshadows the third-party titles, and that will cause the third-party support to drop completely. Then, the Wii officially becomes this generation's GameCube.
clarify exactly what you mean by "copy and paste ideas". I'd rather not call you naive over a misunderstanding.

Re: Best Next Gen Console?
i have to go with the Wii. the system of faith as it was called a years or so ago. The PS3 just shot themselves in the foot. i guess i understand their plan because right before the next gen consoles came out it was more of a race between sony and Xbox. if you're on top, hell of course everyone is going to pay twice what the other consoles cost, right? i think sony may just be out of the race. yes, they have some games coming out, but it looks like their support is jumping ship. if their major devlopers like square, NIS america, and the others make their quality games for other consoles, why even buy the PS3.
Xbox is definately competition for the Wii. i enjoyed eternal sonata and call of duty 4 for the xbox. i gave those games like 100 hours that were well spent:). bio shock looked extremely good, i can't believe they incorperated heroin hero into a great game. gears of war was quite the distraction for a few weekends as well.
The wii wins for me though. I just can't help but love it. nintendo makes games that i want to beat or play over and over again. i've downloaded sonic and goemon mystical ninja and played them . the party play value is un matchable. i still come home to find my sister and her friends playing Wario ware smooth moves. the motion sensitive controller has it's pro's and con's though. for example call of duty for the Wii was a big con. i wasted my money on that for the wii; however, ultimate alliance is the mirror image of that. i've played it on 2 different platforms and it just feels natural on the Wii. the aiming is off of the wii-mote which is it's downfall. mr. chaos brought up a good point that wii kind of shadows third party games with their hard hitters. i dunno if the thrid party companies will drop out because of it though. as long as the system is selling, and games FOR the system are selling; i think you have yourself a working business relationship

Re: Best Next Gen Console?
How, exactly, can you say that the PS3 is out of the race when it now can be bought at $400 (beware, that sku is only compatible with psONE games) and has the strongest line-up of 2008?
Ps3 '08:
LittleBigPlanet
Infamous
Killzone 2
Metal Gear Solid 4
Metal Gear Online 2 (yes it is a separate buy)
Final Fantasy XIII
Final Fantasy Versus XIII
Gran Turismo 5
Tekken 6
Socom Confrontation
White Knight Story
God of War III (supposedly coming in 2008)
Afrika (if you like Pokemon Snap, which i don't)
Devil May Cry 4 (multi-plat)
Burnout Paradise (multi-plat, but it is the better sku on PS3)
Resident Evil 5 (multi-plat)
There are other exclusives and multi-plats but i either can't recall them or know a lot about them (or don't care about them; Guitar Hero 4 and Call of Duty 5 are examples of that). Also, there are is an exclusive MMO being developed for PS3, but there isn't any information on it (or, possibly, them). I don't think the Ps3 will all of a sudden start selling a million units a month and take the lead, but i doubt that its "out of the race".
The third-party games aren't selling well and that's all the third-parties care about. How much profit Nintendo's making is irrelevant in their eyes if they can't take their share out of it.

I wouldn't say the best line-up, the 360 has some bitchin games coming out. The only games I saw worth having on that list were multi platforms, just like all the other PS3 games worth having.

apparently sales DO represent a lot. why are wii's still sold out after a year and 3 months? are you telling me people are returning the Wii's because theyre apparently "a bad system" yet Nintendo cant keep them in stock? FYI, we are talking about the CONSOLE - not games. as i said above, Xbox 360 does have the better games at the moment. but i also mentioned it has been out a year longer and hasnt come up with anything revolutionary.
the PS3 was selling like crazy when it first came out. guess what happened 2 weeks after? people were honestly willing to trade their PS3 for a Wii. a loss of ~$300. i saw it all over the place on craigslist and other websites. the point im making is the Wii can NOT be as bad of a system as you make it out to be if people are not returning them like they do the other systems (not to mention the horrid issues that the Xbox 360 has itself; ie - red light error, disc scratching, etc)
the reason the Wii is a great system is not because the games dont give you 80 hours of fresh gameplay. as said before, its an entertainment system that EVERYONE can enjoy - not just hardcore gamers.
clarify exactly what you mean by "copy and paste ideas". I'd rather not call you naive over a misunderstanding.
for example, the translation of Halo 2 to Halo 3. the developers even admitted they kept the majority of the game exactly how it was in Halo 2. they said to treat Halo 3 as an expansion pack to Halo 2.
a lot of the games that come out for PS3 and Xbox 360 are great experiences, but theyre not things we havent seen before that are exclusive to the systems themself.

Please, could you list said 360 list? You not liking the exclusives probably has a lot to do with being ignorant about them. If not, then please tell me what is so bad about LittleBigPlanet (which looks to be the most revolutionary game this generation), Killzone 2, White Knight Story, Metal Gear Solid 4, MGO2, Infamous, God Of War III, and any others that you think are "not worth having"Shadowspine wrote:

Lawke, The 360 has released games that have improve gameplay far more than the Wii has. The Wii's only contribution has been to replace button-mashing with... stick-flailing or whatever you want to call it. And, that is a pretty sucky gift to the gaming world.
Everyone can hardly enjoy a party system when it releases very mediocre party games and there not even new IPs (atleast most of them). Can you really say "Yay!" for Mario Party Eight when it is no different or better than its seven previous games (it has a 64% on gamerankings for crying out loud). If you can really be pleased about the Wii's gaming line-up, then you are obviously not a gamer and do not belong in this discussion.
Lmao (moving on to your c/p crap). Halo is a franchise. They're not supposed to change radically; that is for brand new IP's (of course, there are exceptions). Just so you know, Halo 3 brought along a couple of great features that should be used in other games (especially the Theater). Do you mind pointing out where Twilight Princess is so different than OoT, MM, or WW?
Where have you ever seen something like BioShock?
Also, your last post Lawke was incredibly biased and petty.

Re: Best Next Gen Console?
the thing is these exclusives have 360 counterparts that are near the same game.
White Night Story - Lost Odyssey
Socom confrontation - Rainbow 6 vegas 2
God of War 3 - Too Human
Killzone 2 - Rogue Warrior
I'm also convinced that MGS4, like twin snakes and Substinance in the past will, if not in 08, eventually be a multi-platform as well.
Nothing's even been released about infamous except for a minute long video, saying little about gameplay and story, so not much hype on this end.
little big planet seems like it would only interest a small amount of gamers that like to make there own puzzles. I think it's a cool concept but I don't think the public will fall in love with it.
I sugest if we're going to keep this up to move it to its own topic because this has nothing to do with the quality of the systems.

Re: Best Next Gen Console?
ok...
White Knight Story is nothing like Lost Odyessy. Lost Odyessy is just a clone of Blue Dragon (and according to critics, they both suck). Lost Odyssey is a complete rehash of the turn-based RPG's from the Ps1 days. White Knight Story, on the other hand, is a RPG with an in-depth and innovative fighting system. Its sort of like this generation's Legend of Dragoon, but much more badass because its more real time. I don't know White Knight's storyline (not enough of it, anyways), but Level 5 is a pretty good developer.
If you are going to bring up Rogue Warrior (which is also on the PS3 fyi), you should compare it to Vegas (which ia ASLO on the Ps3). Rogue Warrior is just rainbow 6 in Korea and maybe it will be more open. However, there are some similarities between RW and Socom.
Killzone 2 is a mix of the Gears of War cover-system mechanic and Call of Duty's fast paced action (but with better A.I. and physics).
Your comparison between God of War and Too Human is fairly accurate (i think anyways). i would say that Too Human is more like Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, but God of War works, too.
Thinking that MGS4 will be on the 360 is a groundless and desparate hope. Hideo Kojima has denied working on a 360 version and during last year's E3, he stated than Metal Gear Solid 4 is a "PlayStation 3 exclusive". But hey, what does he know, right?
True, but the trailer showed what the concept of the gameplay was. Infamous seems to have a great deal of potential to be awesome. A free-roaming, modern, super-power game where you can either destory or protect cities seems pretty cool.
So you think LittleBigPlanet is cool? I can't disagree with you there (though it is a understatment imo), but whether or not it appeals to the public remains to be seen. You don't have to make your own game in LittleBigPlanet; you could just the games made by everyone else via online.
Right... answer me this question: Isn't the quality of the system determined by the number of quality games it offers?

bolded for emphasis.
sounds like hypocracy to me.
"the 360 has a great list of games that I like but since i dont like the Wii games, that makes the Wii console inferior."
you can say how much you love the 360, but currently by majority votes all across gaming websites and beyond, people vote the Wii as best console.
you also arent even taking into account the amount of time 360 and Wii have been out. give the wii another year, compare it to games the 360 had in the same said year of equivalence and we can talk about how great those games are.
if youre going to defend the 360, atleast mention its perks such as the best Online service (although not free) and HD support. your arguement of just having great games is making you look foolish when were talking about the console itself.

Its basically Condemed but with better graphics and magic powers that have been in every RPG imaginable. Fire, Frost, Lightning, etc etc. We've seen it before.

Re: Best Next Gen Console?
i think it may be a little easier to find common ground if i bring this up.
really each system seems to be more focused on certain audiences. from what i can tell sony has brought out more games.
sony seems to be the rich kids play thing. they appear to like what has been pointed out either a similar game, or the game is multi-platform.
xbox 360 seems to have the majority of your smaller party or single player driven games
wii is like the magic fun box for parties. claiming it's just waiving a stick around is true if you want to simplify the game play to the smalles detail hehe. but if you simplify it that greatly, that means xbox and PS3 are just games that you push buttons and move joysticks; which makes them the same as most systems back to intellivision. heh, claiming that people who play the wii are not gamers is an awfully bold statement. sure, now adays there are main steam ladies and gents that claim to game by playing guitar hero, halo, and wii sports; however, each person that has participated in these arguements has brought up valid points with insight from one side or the other.

Re: Best Next Gen Console?
Really nothing about the wii is revolutionary or innovative or "they took a risk". They recycled 50 year old technology and tried to put it as the main focus of their games.
We wanna speak risk and innovation lets talk ps3. They spent a metric fuckton in research and development MAKING UP a completely new processing system that no game has even tapped the surface of it's fullest capabilities and created the new blue ray disks which hold what 3xs or more than a normal cd! Don't act like the wii did something special. PS3 won the war in my heart. They just need games and to finish touching up the online play.
Oh to edit, the controllers for the ps3 and recharging them is years in advanced compared to the wii and xbox.

You not liking the exclusives probably has a lot to do with being ignorant about them. If not, then please tell me what is so bad about LittleBigPlanet (which looks to be the most revolutionary game this generation), Killzone 2, White Knight Story, Metal Gear Solid 4, MGO2, Infamous, God Of War III, and any others that you think are "not worth having"
bolded for emphasis. to emphasize what, exactly? I've never played it but have listened to and watched tons of people who have. It is the most revolutionary title this generation, so far (based on what i have seen of the game, of course).
sounds like hypocracy to me. how is that hypocrisy? what does it contradict?
"the 360 has a great list of games that I like but since i dont like the Wii games, that makes the Wii console inferior."Who said this and where?
you can say how much you love the 360, but currently by majority votes all across gaming websites and beyond, people vote the Wii as best console.
Funny, on this poll here the The 360 has twice as many votes as the Wii.
you also arent even taking into account the amount of time 360 and Wii have been out. give the wii another year, compare it to games the 360 had in the same said year of equivalence and we can talk about how great those games are.Time doesn't matter. In another year, the 360 will STILL have been out longer than the Ps3 and Wii, and this will be so until the end of time. Its a weak argument. All you can do is compare the games that the systems do and will offer (to a reasonable extent on the upcoming titles though).
if youre going to defend the 360, atleast mention its perks such as the best Online service (although not free) and HD support. your arguement of just having great games is making you look foolish when were talking about the console itself.I believe i already did this in my FIRST post here. And lmao, What good is a gaming console that doesn't have any good games to play? It is why the Ps3 (despite all of its "perks") fails as of right now (though it has gotten marginally better this fall with UT III, uncharted, R&C, and all of the multi-plats) and why the Wii fails and will fail in 2008.
"BioShock is basically Condemed but with better graphics and magic powers that have been in every RPG imaginable. Fire, Frost, Lightning, etc etc. We've seen it before."
No; Just no. The only resemblemce to Comdemned: Crimal Origins is BioShock's wrench. That's it. BioShock uses completely physics based world. This is one of the things that makes its combat truly innovative. The physics and unique plasmids (that stretch beyond just fire, lighting, and frost) make your own ingenuity the limit to what you can do. Think carefully before you respond to this.
BossHog, "stick-flailing" isn't over simplifying it. Have you played games such as Twilight Princess, where you just rapidly wave the Wii-mote back and forth? It is very much like just mashing the B-button in th previous zeldas (or the GC of TP); well i'd say that its slightly worse because when you wave the wii-mote HORIZONTALLY + forward on the nunchaku, Link does a VERTICAL attack ( ). And then there is Soul Caliber Legends. A game where you can close your eyes and just swing the wii-mote wildly around and clear the level perfectly (this isn't an exaggeration, either).
Also, its not really a bold statement when you consider the games the Wii has to offer.

well duh, but does the wii and xbox include recharge cords for their controllers? Or have a fairly cheap (30$ or so) port where you can recharge all 4 at the same time and keep them together for ease of use? nope
